Building a flying robot

I had experience in R&D and commercialization of entertainment robots at Sony. When I started leading a team as an engineer, I suggested that I would like to be responsible for the development of a new flying robot product that people would be excited about, and that was the origin of Aerosense.

It is said that the goal of research and development is not simply to develop innovative products, but to create new industries after thinking through what AI and robotics technology could do to contribute to the world, we decided that one solution would be to make "flying technology" accessible and usable. We felt that this was a big challenge that would change the structure of society, so we established Aerosense in 2015 with investments from Sony and ZMP, which specializes in the robotics business.

Since we established Aerosense, the company has focused on developing drone solutions to support society through numerous kinds of verification work. We have developed a strong product lineup, including the “Aerobo” photogrammetric drone, the “Aerobo Marker”, a ground control point for drone measurements, the “Aerobo Cloud”, an image analysis platform, and the “Aerobo OnAir”, which enables continuous flight with a wired power feed, to help companies and local governments improve productivity by utilizing these products in inspection, surveying and other fields. In 2020, we launched the "Aerobo Wing," a first-of-its-kind VTOL drone that we have been developing since our establishment. Since then, it has made wide-area and long-distance inspections and surveying possible, expanding the range of solutions we offer and preparing us for further growth.

The reality is that an increasing number of industries and municipalities in Japan are currently suffering from a shortage of human resources for inspection and surveying, amid the social problem of a shrinking workforce due to the declining birthrate and aging population. Not only will our products be implemented in society to bring about an "industrial revolution in the sky" that will help solve the problem of labor shortages, but we will also leap forward to become a company that contributes and is recognized around the world for the solutions we have developed in Japan, a country with advanced issues that other countries will inevitably face.
